Our Beginnings

For twenty years we’ve been running a family guest house PENZION ZA VODOU www.penzionzavodou.cz in Dvůr Králové nad Labem with a restaurant, large garden, children’s playground, a football pitch, three swimming pools and an artificial pond. During that time, we’ve grown to become one of the region’s best amenities in terms of dining and accommodation services. Simple proof of this comes from the thousands of satisfied guests who we welcome every year.

Recently, we’ve become increasingly aware that the town and its surroundings lack a type of accommodation that is quite common around the world. We were thrilled by the idea of building a hostel with shared rooms aimed at the young generation of travellers, cyclists and sportspeople, which will also offer comfortable accommodation with plenty of privacy for couples and families with children. We are also happy to accommodate larger teams or teambuilding groups. You can book a whole room and have it just for yourself. However, early booking is a must.

On our 20th anniversary, we decided to give ourselves a gift in the form of a new ART HOSTEL lifestyle concept.

Our goal was to create a self-service hostel aided by modern technology that would make our guests’ stay as easy and pleasant as possible while maintaining comfort. Therefore, it was clear to us from the beginning that the hostel would be without a reception desk, and guests would be provided with a single numerical code for the entire building.

When we bought the original burgher house on T. G.Masaryk Square in 2018, we knew that turning it into a modern-style accommodation facility would not be an easy task. A fun fact is that there’s perhaps not a single right-angle in this ancient building. We therefore chose a sensitive reconstruction approach, preserving as many original elements as possible. For example, vaulted ceilings and exposed masonry. We added a garden apartment with a roof terrace, thus creating a cosy outdoor space with flower beds, trees and shrubs, and a wooden balcony, between it and the main building. The reconstruction lasted six months, from January to June 2020.

Our goal was for each room to have its own distinctive atmosphere and something unique. We bet on a timeless combination of wood and metal, and equipped the interiors with simple yet stylish, modern accessories.

At each stage of the reconstruction, we had one wish in mind. That you’d feel with us both natural and simultaneously exceptional.

We’re convinced that you’ll enjoy your visit to the ART HOSTEL.

Have a nice stay,
